Frequently Asked Questions about Good Sam Extended Service Plan

The Good Sam Extended Service Plan is a mechanical breakdown insurance policy, more reliable and easier to understand than extended warranty coverage. It's designed to protect you from the high cost of unexpected RV repairs or breakdowns.

How does mechanical breakdown insurance work?

In the event of a breakdown, call us first for a referral to a preferred service provider to receive priority service and the highest quality repairs OR take your RV to your favorite service provider anywhere in the U.S. or Canada. If you do take it to your own service provider, call our toll-free number and our RV experts will talk to the service center's technician on your behalf. They will review the service center's diagnosis and recommendations, and then authorize the repair work.

Major repairs may require an inspection to verify the extent of the damage. We pay the service center directly for all covered repairs. You pay the deductible, plus any non-covered items.

Why is Good Sam Extended Service Plan better than a RV warranty or service contract?

Good Sam Extended Service Plan is a true mechanical breakdown insurance policy, not a warranty. That means it complies with stringent insurance regulations, whereas some service contracts are underwritten by the warranty provider themselves and are valid only if that warranty provider remains in business. Our Plan is backed by an A+ underwriter.

What if I break down when your office is closed?

You have the option to follow the same steps without receiving prior authorization from Good Sam Extended Service Plan. If you do this, be sure to call us within five business days from the date of your repairs, and we will reimburse you in compliance with the Terms and Conditions. (Please note: If possible, we recommend waiting until our office reopens so you can obtain Good Sam Extended Service Plan authorization first. That way, we can pay the service center directly for covered repairs, and you won't have to dip into your travel funds while on the road).

Is labor covered?

Yes, both parts and labor are included for all covered RV repairs. For non-covered repairs, or if you decide to have additional work completed, you assume the cost of parts and labor.

Is routine maintenance covered?

Good Sam Extended Service Plan is designed to protect you from the high costs of sudden and unexpected breakdowns, not the day-to-day servicing of your RV. Our plan requires RV owners to service your vehicle according to the manufacturer's requirements to maintain full coverage under the policy.

While my vehicle is in the shop for Good Sam Extended Service Plan covered repairs, can I have additional non-covered items repaired?

Yes. You can always add additional fix-its to your vehicle while it's in the shop, and pay for those non covered extras on your own. For discounts on parts and labor for non-covered repairs, use a service facility or contact us to get more information at 888-861-8697.

If my vehicle is disabled, does Good Sam Extended Service Plan tow it to a service center?

For towing and other roadside assistance services, we highly recommend Good Sam Roadside Assistance. Among the great benefits Good Sam Roadside Assistance offers are unlimited towing to the nearest service center, and help with tire failure or battery issues.

Do I pay a deductible per each item repaired in one visit to a repair facility?

You pay one deductible per occurrence, not per item. So even if there are several repairs that need to be made, you still only pay one deductible per occurrence.

How much is the deductible?

For Motorhomes you can select a deductible of $100, $250, $500; for Fifth Wheels and Travel Trailers: $100, $200, $300; and for Cars, SUVs and Trucks: $100, $250, $500.

I have a brand-new RV with a manufacturer’s warranty. Why should I consider Good Sam Extended Service Plan now?

Can I have the cost of a covered repair applied toward a brand-new appliance?

Yes. If a covered part breaks down and can be repaired, but you prefer to get a new one instead, you can apply the cost of the repair toward the price of the new unit. For example, your refrigerator breaks down. It can be repaired for $1000, but you would like a new refrigerator instead. You can opt to apply the $1000 repair cost toward the price of the new unit.
